I suppose one way to frame this is that Microsoft uses the users as a debugging community.

Tablets are soon to be replaced by ultra-books.I think they learned a lot from vista, especially regarding the timing of windows releases. This is probably going to be their most important is release to date because of the tablet computing hype. Miss it and they could be screwed... big time

In which case they still have an efficient OS that will perform better on those slower devices. Plus it means they'll be touchscreen-ready when someone realizes you can slap a touchscreen on an Ultrabook and use it as both a laptop and a tablet.Tablets are soon to be replaced by ultra-books.
I was thinking the same thing. In which case they still have an efficient OS that will perform better on those slower devices. Plus it means they'll be touchscreen-ready when someone realizes you can slap a touchscreen on an Ultrabook and use it as both a laptop and a tablet.
I don't doubt the beta is very close, but I question whether that specific build is it. It would be very unusual for a MS Windows beta to be build XXX0, when the major betas have always been XX00.
From WinBeta: "One thing to note, however, is that even though this is build 8220 and it clearly states "Consumer Preview", this might be a beta candidate build."lot more images on winbeta site, looks like that is going to be build number virge
Windows 3.1-1992
Windows 95-1995
Windows 98-1998
Windows 2k-2000
Windows ME-2000 (Home edition of windows 2k)
Windows XP-2001
Windows Vista-2006
Windows 7-2009
Windows 8-2012
Aside from 00-01, MS has been on a fairly consistent release cycle. The timing is nothing new.
I meant that more towards its features. ME, built on to what 2k already brought to the table. I was aware that its based on the 9x kernel.Actually, Windows ME is NOT a "home edition of 2k". It's based on the Windows 9x kernel and NOT the NT kernel like Win2k.
Steve jobs must be laughing his ass off (in his grave) at how ugly the UI is. Why would anyone want to use this without a touchscreen (or even with one)? It's like they took media center, made it super ugly, and decided that's the best interface for a desktop computer a with keyboard and mouse.

I'll be skipping Windows 8 just like I did with Vista. Windows 7 is so solid I don't see the point in Win8 for a desktop system. I'll wait for Windows 9.![]()
Same here, and I have even more motivation now that I've learned they are implementing that horrible ribbon interface from Office right into Explorer.
