Windows 8.1 forgotten password....tried everything.....

Ok, so mother-in-law laptop..(HP, Windows 8)...hadn't used in a while forgot her password. I tried all via tutorials. Activated admin via cmd prompt, no-joy. Tried to create new password via net user cmd prompts, no-joy.

Created a new user and made admin but apparently *her* login is like a king of users and even other admins can't do anything without permissions.

I *think* it has to do with local vs microsoft-based account. Her user is associated with a yahoo e-mail account but I think she might have still set it up as a microsoft login account rather than just local and thus this "kingship" of this user.

Any suggestions?

Reset windows 8.1 administrator password

I own a machine that is running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. It has an user account with limited rights - where I can login and the Administrator account for which i forgot the password. Both accounts are

How can I recover my Windows 8.1 password?

Thanks! Keyfinder is for OS keys and I've tried all the rest but your Belarc link showed me KonBoot which looks promising. (At least it seems to address the issue I'm having with local vs domain user accounts that might be giving me the problem)

I'll advise what happens. (even if I discus-toss this thing down the block!)

I recently had to do this as I was getting password protected PCs turned in for excess as part of a sale.

You can remove any password including administrator ones thru exploiting the security hole in windows (works for XP thru win 8).

There are different spins (eg, involving redirecting >Sys 32-->SETHC or Utilman to cmd.exe) and there are various Youtubes on how to do this.

It was straight forward for me using a boot CD of Puppy Linux to access the applicable system32 file for redirection of sethc.

Cant find the specific material right now but after redirection, the gist is to use the command prompt with netuser to then access the various established accounts for access.

I've used Kon-Boot for years and the latest version should be able to bypass Microsoft account password. Another solution is using PCUnlocker which can help you convert the online Microsoft account back to offline local account, so you can regain access to the same user profile locally.
