Windows 8.1 for gaming?

Hi everyone, first of all, I hope this hasnt been questioned already, at least I havent seen a thread about that.

The thing is, I got me a decently kick ass gaming pc with a r9 290 and Im thinking of formating the pc because I have been suffering from strange stuff and I think its better to format, and I have thought of going from windows 7 to windows 8.1

Will I see a diffrence in performance, for better or for worse? is windows 8.1 more resource consuming? are the drivers of hardware in general green still, in particular the god-damn amd drivers?

I dont know, Im waiting for input. Thanks in advance

Games wise BF4 shows a significant performance boost in games, some other games show minor improvements.

Win 8.1 in general has better drive performance than Windows 7, the new IO interfaces and dialogs do help quite a lot. Resource wise its pretty similar and the drivers are healthy. About the only driver issue is no official driver for the Soundblaster Z on Windows 8.1 (its on 8 just not 8.1) but the Windows 8 driver worked fine for me.

Power saving and core parking also seem to work considerably better. I don't find the need to run the machine in High performance mode all the time due to small lags introduced by poor performance, Windows 8 seems to get that power saving right so I don't notice it.

Win8.1 does support DX11.1 and 11.2 down the road which Win7 won't get, drivers are very good in general in my experience, companies have been pretty quick to get good support unlike Vista days where they were very slow.

As a gamer myself very happy with 8.1 and its quite snappy in general use.

I use Asus Xonar DX soundcard and yes both 8 and 8.1 drivers available at Asus website,no issues in gaming for me 🙂 .
