I have a laptop that is a 1.5GHz dual core with 2GB ram and 100gb hdd and it runk windows 7. I guess smoothness is a matter of personal opinion but it seems fine to me.

Those specs are pretty much what an Atom netbook run, just with more ram. It will likely run win 7 but may not enable aero visual package, though with that video card it might be possible. I say give it a go.

I put Win7 on an older Dell notebook with 2G and most of the time it ran a little better than XP. But I was using that for work, not games.

Just make sure your hard drive has no issues, otherwise you should be good to go with that system. I think you will be surprised at how well Win 7 will perform on that system.
Note: My backup computer is a P4 3.0 GHz Socket 478, with 4 GB RAM, GS8400 video, Barracuda 7200.11 1 TB, and running Vista Ultimate X86, and it does very will with that, and it is thought by most that Win 7 runs similar or better with the same hardware.

Games will run slower on Win7. Stay with your XP. If you have a spare partition I would try install another XP w/ SP2 and turn off all unnecessary services. In other words, use partition 1 strictly for work/entertainment stuff and use the partition 2 for gaming and benchmarks. Also assign pagefiles (virtual memory) in a separate drive for better performance. Or better yet lose the winXP and get the Server 2003 Enterprise and start off with no service pack. If SP2 is necessary to run some games then install it.

Remember, men use server OSes... Win7 and Vista are for women.

Please stop your crap about Vista/Win7, it's utter bullshit.
