Windows 7 x64 PRO BSOD : STOP: 0x000000F4

Is STOP: 0x000000F4 normally a hardware issue, or software/driver issue? I set this desktop up, and haven't touched it, but recently it started shutting off every 24-48 hours. I turned off Automatically Restart, so it could write the BSOD to dumps, but there are no dumps. Everything looks great in Event Viewer, no exclamation points, or errors.

I have a 3ware/LSI 9650SE-8port raid card, and the OS is running a Raid 1 with 2x Western Digital RE3 WD3202ABYS drives.

Performance is great, but the thing just keeps shutting off on me. I can reformat, but i'd like to hold off on that if I can, since I recently did it.

I did try reseating the memory (2gb X 4), and all drive cables.

The only thing I have added (2-3 weeks ago) are 3x2TB - raid 5- Samsung HDD's), and removed my old 6x1TB -raid 5 - Seagate HDD's.

I had a similiar issue 3-4 months ago, and bumped down the raid firmware, and it's been solid, until this started happening again, and more frequently.

Any ideas? Or just wipe it?

Personally my guess would be either RAM problems orrrr a Hard drive issue, what I would suggest is find an old hard drive lying about (I imagine you've got one) install Win 7 Pro x64 on it, Take all your drives out except that one, remove your RAID controller, leave it running, if that fixes the problem you know it's a drive/ RAID problem if it dosen't it's probably RAM, so next try different RAM if you've got some. This should help you isolate the problem, as reformatting may not fix the problem, best case it's a problematic RAM stick that you can swap out, worst case it's the RAID controller, or motherboard, (i'd be surprised if it's either of those.)
 
I ran memtest for a few hours, no issues there.

I ran SMART tests on the OS array, no issues.

I think i'll pick up a cheap..$100~ SSD, i've been wanting to anyhow. See if that fixes it, my question is, should I use the raid card, or will that not speed it up at all?

I could also try running on 1 stick of memory too, see if that helps.

I think the easiest way would be 1 stick of memory.
 
When Windows goes down without writing a memory dump, it's usually a hardware problem. Specifically, it's something that takes down Windows at a low-enough level to prevent it from writing to the disk. Usually it's either a disk problem or a memory problem or a power problem.
 
Antec Basiq 450W, 3 5400 rpm drives, 2 7200, 8GB memory, E8400, 3 fans.

I'd assume that is plenty, it was powering 8 7200rpm for a few months without a hiccup.

I'll start with memory though.

Yeah that's a way to go, just work though what it could be, removing components until you find out what it is.
 
It locked up last night, so I bounced it this AM, RDP's in, was working, died after a few hours, so I should see results before tomorrow hopefully. If it's memory or not.
 
If you have a UPS, be sure to remove it as part of your testing. I've seen UPSes that would shut down when they shouldn't.
 
I have my main PC + server (the one with the issue) hooked into it, my PC has stayed on, and my server just shut off. I tried it with only 2 dimms. I'll try 1.
