Windows 7 x64 audio stuttering

I've been running Win7 x64 RC for about 6 weeks now. Everything has been pretty good except that I've had a problem with apps line media player, winamp and foobar 2000 having a sorty of static-like stuttering sound during audio playback whenever I do anything else at the same time that requires even a fraction of the processor's attention. This could be something as simple as loading a webpage. I can see my CPU usage doesn't go over 20%, but the stuttering always happens.

I've got the latest (only) audio drivers available from Asus for the onboard sound. I installed all these back in May when I first set this new system up. Not sure what else I should be checking, but this problem is REALLY driving me nuts. :disgust:

if you cant figure out why then stop spending your time on it and purchase a dedicated sound card. unless you have lots of free time to troubleshoot this or google for other people with this problem & same system specs.

Is it a realtek chipset? If so, just download the latest drivers from realtek themselves.

I can't say I'd recommend buying a dedicated soundcard because you're having trouble with pre-release software. You aren't any more likely to get working sound if you buy some cheap soundcard that will probably sound the same or worse and have poor driver support (realtek isn't so bad, they update semi-frequently).

Google realtek, go to downloads, select the windows 7 driver.
