Windows 7 won't recognize new memory install

I've had 2gb (2x1gb) installed in my system (Windows 7, 32-bit) for a while now. I just bought 2 more gb (2x1gb). I turn off my computer, plug in the memory (it's set in the slots correctly), but when I try to turn my PC back on, my monitor only shows a yellow light (does not turn to green) and won't show a picture. I have to take out the memory and restart to get my monitor to show a picture again. Quite annoying... I've been hearing that with 32-bit you will only see around 3.5gb, but that's fine - I just want my PC to recognize that it's there!

I even tried to plug in the new memory sticks while my PC was on (smart, I know) and I actually got a reading from "System Information for Windows," showing that it sees the memory stick, but Windows itself still says I only have 2gb installed.

Memory in my system without the new sticks:

One of the 2 identical sticks I want to install:

Mobo: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe

I'm wondering if the different brands are what are causing problems? Which, if you ask me, is stupid...

Thanks so much to anyone with any advice!

Could be incompatibility? But yeah, try the new ram by itself first and double check the settings in BIOS.

WELL!... turns out the memory was faulty. Not only that but it decided to completely ruin the RAM section of my motherboard. Just bought a new mobo and am awaiting its arrival. Should've listened to myself and not bought OEM memory *smacks forehead*

Plenty of times I've had memory not work in certain MB's, but it's never killed the MB.
I'd look into what's going on there.

I had a SDRAM board (in the P2/P3 era) that had a memory slot ruined by a "generic" memory module that was apparently a bit too wide and had NO chamfer on its edges. The first time the memory module was inserted, its wide and sharp PCB board grabbed onto several of the copper contacts in the memory slot and tore them from their intended locations.

With a microscope I was able to straighten the copper contacts a bit but I never could trust that memory slot again. Sometimes when you inserted a memory module at least one of the pins didn't make proper contact and there'd be a memory error.

But you're referring to actual physical damage, correct?
