I'm a little torn as to the source of my issues, whether it's motherboard, OS, Vent software, chipset, user error.
I posted on the motherboard side
here
Vent always worked well on my XP Pro 32 bit box.
Now vent either does not respond when I press my push to talk, or when I speak it puts out a blast of sound that causes the raid leader to tell me not to talk anymore. Just overall not responsive and doesn't normalize at all. Sometimes it works, but not consistently.
I installed W7 on a new SATA HD and relegated the old XP drives (IDE) to backups. I've tried running the old vent from the old IDE drives with a desktop shortcut, I've tried installing Vista 64 version of vent.
When I launch vent I right click and run as administrator.
I have a headset and a set of speakers, both using the onboard audio on
my Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P running a Phenom II 945 quad core.
I currently have a shortcut to my sound control panel that allows me to change whether my headset or speakers to "System Default". It doesn't seem to always work when I change the setting. When we rebuilt the box, this was the only way we could figure to get the flexibility to raid quietly with headset while family slept or blast away through the speakers.
When I change audio settings in WoW they often don't "take" either.
Last night's raiding was a pain in the arse, 4.5 hours raiding without any sound at all from WoW, able to hear vent but not speaking on it for fear of the sound quality getting me kicked from the channel/group.
