Windows 7 Upgrade ??

Currently using XP3. According to Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Setup my PC should be able to handle an upgrade to Windows 7. A couple of questions, if you will ?
Is there affordable Windows 7 software offered out there for downloading and/or upgrading? Would it be more cost effective to purchase a used unit? You assistance & suggestions concerning this matter would very much be appreciated. Thank you very much for taking the time to help! SM

I got my work PC off of craigslist a while back after recommendation from folks here. Been working great.
I think I remember that thread. I think I tried to help 😛

Anyways, @seamorton, at this late in the game, Microsoft no longer sells Windows 7 Home Edition. You CAN still get legit Windows 7 Pro OEM 64-bit from Newegg, although, it has become rather expensive as of late. Maybe MS stopped selling that one too, and Newegg is just selling off unsold stock. (It used to be $140, then jumped to like $200+)

Instead of buying something that expensive, why not buy the whole PC for around the same price, WITH the OS included. Try looking on Newegg, at their refurbs, look for a Haswell i5 or i7, 8GB of DDR3 (or 16GB), 1-2TB HDD, or possibly a 240/256GB SSD, along with a HDD, or with space to add one. Last but not least, make sure that the OS is included. You can still get Windows 7 PCs, refurbished. Most of them come with Pro, which is alright, since it's a strict super-set of Home, so things like Media Center are still included, AFAIK.

The other alternative, is to "find" a Windows 7 ISO, and make a bootable DVD (using ImgBurn) or USB (using Rufus), and then do an install of Windows 7, not putting in a key. It will let you run that way, for ... a while.

I must say ... that all the responses have been quite helpful. They have all been encouraging reading the contents and getting some direction. I now feel more comfortable looking into the suggestions that have been shared. Has anybody ever heard or done business with http://digitalproductkey.com/ Hope I got this down right?? They have some software listed.

Straight from the horse's mouth:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...duct-key/85c8b6bc-3b39-4078-8b68-4b345e65f309

That site is not selling legitimate licenses.

They are actually selling MSDN keys that will be blocked eventually

I got a win 7 key form a place like that years ago, might of been them, it worked. At the time it seemed to be a gray area. But as UsandThem post it aint copacetic. I wouldn't do it again.

But those pierces are should be what home OS's cost. Pro can be $$

Thank you for the update! I must be missing something? The last OS I installed was XP. I purchased the OEM software CD Disk with the product key. I then installed it on a PC I was putting together then got it registered or activated with Microsoft.

What are the parameters or procedure. If I was to purchase a used PC with OS installed do I get the product key, disk, etc, in the event that the HD or some other component has to be replaced and the OS reinstalled. Or by purchasing it from a credible vendor that sells software that sends no OEM software CD. How does this supposed to work? This SC is confused! Thank you for your patience & understanding. SM

You can download Windows 7 directly from Microsoft, and create a bootable disc. That's not the problem.

You just need to buy a legit key. The problem with a lot of those online stores that sell keys for a lot less than legit places, is they are all grey market. It might activate just fine, but you just never know when Microsoft will deactivate it as the sellers are not selling the keys legitimately. The problem is since it's been replaced some time ago, the legit licenses cost more than Windows 10. like here:

I concur an understand what you are saying. Thanks so very much for taking the time to post this. SM
What applications are you running on XP? At this point Windows 7 is close to EOL, so you will either need to move to Windows 10 or switch over to Linux.
