Windows 7 Upgrade Question

I have belatedly just learned that I can't install my Microsoft 7 Home Premium OS on a new HDD as I had planned. Is my understanding correct that I can install the FULL version of Windows 7 on a new HDD? Any additional info/warnings will be appreciated.

Why can't you install Home Premium, how is it stopping you? Are you going from 32 to 64 bit? Are you trying to do the upgrade?

Not sure what kind of warnings you are thinking of (unless I read the post wrong) but I used the student $29 version and did a full install w/o a hitch.

Your question denotes misunderstanding. You can change HDDs on any computer and use the previous OS installation cloned to the new drive.

corkyg, I evidently did not give enough information about my situation and I am sure that I have some misunderstanding. I want to install a new HDD, partitioned with one, a small partition to install the Windows 7 OS in. Is it possible for me to do that? I am not technically knowledgeable enough to understand cloning the previous OS to the new drive. Thanks

Ted, you can do what you are asking. During the install process of 7, it will ask you where you want to install the OS and it will list the drives in your system. If your new drive is a 1TB drive (for example), select that, and then you will be able to select options on that screen to create say a 100GB partition for your C drive out of the full TB on it.
