Windows 7 updates

So there's an update for windows 7, so i restart to install them, it boots up normal, then says configuring updates 0% for like 15 minutes or longer, then eventually says updates failed reverting to normal. I really dont want to wait 20 minutes to start up my computer every day, does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

This last update a couple of days ago was horribly slow on reboot, even with my fast SSD. But after it installed, my computer works normally. You really don't want to short circuit this process. Just wait until it finishes. If everything still is slow, you can try hibernating to shut your computer down. Windows 7 restart from hibernation is really good, especially with older style hard drives. If I was still using a regular hard drive instead of SSD, I would be using hibernation almost every single day. Also try updating manually instead of just letting Windows choose when to do the update.

I believe you'd need to formally uninstall the update (even though it isn't installing correctly). You'll have to look through your Windows Update history and see what it grabbed that isn't installing correctly, then uninstalling it through Programs and Features.

I had this the other day, most of the help seemed to point towards fixing the way updates would connect while not logged in. Here's what I did to fix that issue for myself;

I changed my dns server from my ISP to Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
Opened the Windows Update application and installed all the updates, it then suggested I needed a reboot.
Rebooted and waited. It didn't go through the first time, I think my dns was still timing out or it had my ISP dns still up.

Anyway after a day or so it finally went through. There isn't a real issue as updates cannot install and mess up your W7 install, it's just a connection problem when getting the latest data before your user logs in.

I have the same issue on my desktop. It also shows that there are updates to install when shut down. My laptop does not have this problem. It installed this update the first time. Both systems atr Win 7 64 bit.

I would do the uninstall update someone suggested, but which update is it? Just unistall the latest and hope it is the correct one?

Nothing is being installed, W7 cancels installation if it cannot gather updates before the user signs in. Please refer to this, I just changed my DNS and waited. Within 24 hours all was well. It's a connection problem...
