Windows 7 updates no longer install?

Windows 7 updates will no longer install automatically or manually they just hang.

I have tried a reg cleaner, doing the cmd prompt and running SFC nothing changes.

I have tried to use a restore point but they are all gone except one prior to this happening and it will not restore.

I thought it might be a virus and have used several virus scanners including Kaspersky Pure and Malwarebytes, my computer is clean.

Anyone else ever have this problem and perhaps know a fix?

Thanks.

This has worked for me in the past, you should see if it works for you:

In the control panel, turn off automatic updates. Then restart, and then turn them back on again. If you want you can just set it to download for now and then manually try to install.
If it works, then you can change it back to automatically update.

Definitely sounds like malware or a virus. Disabling windows update, interfering with antivirus software, and deleting prior restore points are all textbook virus behaviors.

Unfortunately, once you're infected, antivirus and antimalware software are not necessarily reliable.

If Windows Update gives a specific error code, you can search Microsoft Technet for a "fix it" patch that might fix it for you, otherwise your safest bet would be to nuke the drive and do a clean install.

I don't know if in Windows 7 you can delete the primary partition and re-create it. But if you re-install, you can try that. It's one of the first options you see when you install Windows. The menu is pretty simple to follow.

That worked, it installed several updates, but now keeps installing the same last 10 updates at shut down every time I shut down.

That's odd..
what if you turn automatic updates off, then reboot. Then reboot again, and try manually installing the rest of the updates?
