Windows 7 SP1 update install nightmare.

Windows 7 SP1 won't install,no matter what I've tried.

(I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.)

I'm at my wits' end here.

Help!!!

this info helped me once upon a time;
http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/214889-service-pack-1-won-t-install.html

If that doesn't help, google: Windows 7 SP1 won't install

I remember it being a problem back in the day, but damned if I recall how exactly I got around it.

Also, if this helps, here are links to the SP1 ISOs....you'll still need a product key (I think the pre SP1 product key will work on the SP1 ISO). At least you'd be able to burn a DVD or create a usb that will install Win7 SP1 (granted, the puds at Microsoft refuse to release an SP2, so there are still a few hours worth of updates on top of SP1...but it should allow you to bypass your current problem)

Whoops,I meant exe file..

I'm eventually going to upgrade to Windows 8.1 64-bit..(When I have more money.)

I'd still like to see if there's any solution to my problem.

I've tried that.SP1 still doesn't install successfully.

can you be any more vague?

Equivalent to saying "My car won't start.... I've added gas, but it won't start"

Do you have error codes? What's your log files say? Have you done all your updates? Is your 'SP1 .exe' file a legit file or is it downloaded from a torrent site? Have you done any malware/virus scans with a reputable software?

You really need to provide some useful information for us to even to remotely begin to help you. Right now, we are taking shots in the dark at best.

You know, in the time that has elapsed since you started this thread windows update would have your computer completely up to date.

Sadly, from personal experience if SP1 doesn't install, let's say 95% chance you will never get it to install except for a complete reinstall of the OS.

I've spent many, many, many wasted hours trying everything suggested everywhere across the internet on a wide range of machines that had service pack update problems, and it rarely works, in fact I cannot think of a single time I've gotten a troubleshooting advice to work installing a service pack on Windows 7 where it wouldn't before.

Most recent machine I had to do a complete reinstall, for some reason all updates that did not require a reboot installed fine, but all that required a reboot failed. Tried every suggestion from every forum from other people asking the same questions with the same error codes & same log file errors, I even tried an in-place upgrade of the OS. Nothing worked. Was forced to save the data, format the drive, and start from a fresh install.

Wow. I can feel this is right! While I am now having very annoying little issue.....at least I never had one with service packs in any system, so, I should count my blessings.
