Windows 7 Sound Problem

Not really sure where to start this, but here we go. It all started the other day. I was having trouble trying to enable the volume icon in the taskbar, it all the sudden just disappeared for no reason whatsoever. I did not change any settings or do anything that would have provoked this. I finally got it working by Googling and found that I need to go into regedit and fix the permissions in the drivers32 section. I did this, restarted, and boom. Everything worked just fine.

Now my problem is this, I use my PC as a desktop and HTPC, so it's hooked up DVI to my monitor and HDMI to my TV. I have been doing this for 6 months now and never had an issue. I use UltraMon to control my primary and secondary display. Now usually when I switch on my secondary display, the sound will automatically goto my TV (which is my secondary). I do this now and the sound still stays on the PC. The TV and PC are both listed when I click on the volume control with my secondary enabled (the PC used to not be on there).

I am getting sound to my TV, but not the video sound. If I click on it to change the volume, I do hear that, but for some reason to sounds from all of the media players are staying on the PC.

This is really confusing, I know, hopefully someone can translate it. I just want it back to normal again. Like I said, not one setting was changed, just happened randomly.

Was the sound icon not showing up when your right-clicked on the little up arrrow for the notification area and selecting properties?

And what happens if you disable the PC when on the secondary? Will it come back when you go back to just the PC (also make sure "view disabled devices" is checked when you are in the volume mixer.

Sounds like a PITA.....you don't have any recent images of a working system do you?
