i turned UAC off since its still too intrusive and on a reboot my sidebar wont work

turned UAC back on and there's the sidebar again

wonder if this is a bug or by design? if i have to choose then i'll have to stick with vista. i want UAC off and i want sidebar.

and no, you don't want UAC off.

This has been discussed numerous times. Gadgets run in protected mode, which is only enabled at UAC level 1 and above.

i only disable UAC since megui doesnt run normally and isnt visible to process lasso

e.g, (UAC is on at the mo.)

i run dvdshrink - it runs fine and has a tick in task manager next to uac virtualization
i run megui and i get a UAC popup and it has no tick on uac virtualization which is in fact, greyed out

dvdshrink is seen by process lasso, while megui is not (with uac turned on)

Have you tried putting megui into a folder with the appropriate security settings? (that is, set to your user)

the folder is in program files. thing is, other progs there dont activate UAC like megui does.

i'm the admin on this PC btw - with UAC turned on

That's because the other programs probably don't write back into an ini file in the Program Files. Megui probably does and that's likely what's causing issues. Try adding full control security rights for your username to the Megui folder.

i've added my username under the 'group or users' section in the security tab and ticked everything. still gives me that popup though

Right-click on it and Run As Administrator.
