Windows 7 shares stop working

Every so often, for no reason, my shares will stop working on my machine. I have 2-3-4 shares going on at once, and the only way to alleviate the problem, for a few days, is to reboot.

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? Or start troubleshooting.

browsing PC name OR IP does not work after a given amount of time - 24-72 hours.

Can you still ping by IP or name over the network when the file shares stop?

The IP is still pingable. The PC in question is still 100% usable network wise. But my shares seem to just stop responding/working for other clients.

I can even browse the share from the PC that the shares failed on.

can you ping the network name? can you browse to the share using the ip instead? \\192.168.xxx.xxx\share

If the IPs are working fine but the names are not, I'd guess there could be a workgroup issue, or some computers might be fighting over the browsing master role.

edit: Oh, I see you said browsing by IP fails too...uhh..I dunno then. Are they losing their DHCP lease from the router or something?

No, this is a corporate environment as well.

Are there any useful events in the eventlog for the client or server machines when you fail to connect?

When this happens, have you browsed to Computer Management, Shared Folders, and looked at the number of connections.

I would guess that you have reached the limit of 10 connections and connections are not getting dropped for some reason when they disconnect.

No, there are no connections at the time it doesn't work.
