Windows 7 Screens

Who cares? It's obvious that nothing major has really happened yet. Which is kind of strange considering the amount of manpower that MS has, in a year they should've had something tangible produced.

They did, Windows Server 2008 and Vista SP1

Aren't those seperate development teams from Windows 7? I know there's some interdependencies and such but one would think that there could be teams working on things set for release with Windows 7 that could be worked on in parallel with Server 08 and Vista SP1.

MS is probably working on dozens of OS kernels, but Longhorn was a subset of Vienna(blackcomb) which is now Windows 7. Since windows XP, all desktop operating systems by MS (internal and commercial) are based on Windows Server codebase (NT).

I saw a video on YouTube which claimed to be Windows 7. It looked like Vista with 7 instead of Vista on the bootup and other screens. I've been using Vista for a year but I am always interested in seeing what's next.

I wouldn't say dozens unless you're counting each branch separately. The main kernels they should have are NT, whatever's in Windows Mobile and maybe whatever's in the XBox 360 but I thought that was based on the NT embedded kernel as well so that might just be considered a branch of the NT kernel. I can't imagine they're doing anything with whatver they called the crap in Win9x and I don't know what other OSes they might be developing in there.

Yea but it's going to be pretty pointless right now since the majority of the work is going to be under the hood.

Pretty much definitely a fake. Just look at the "About" page... Microsoft Windows Version 6.1.

Unless something DRASTICALLY has changed, Windows 7 will be Version 7.0.

Bring it on! Vista has been the most poorly-received OS I've ever seen from Microsoft. It's good for me because people actually pay me to install XP (which is getting harder to find) on new systems, but it's a little disheartening after awhile. I always offer to troubleshoot people's issues with Vista before going with a full XP installation, as well as a tutorial on common question areas. But far too often, people are just totally fed up with Vista and don't want to hear it, or they have hardware/software that just will not work properly under Vista.

So let's get crackin with Vienna/7!
