Windows 7 Run history

I use the Run command a lot to launch programs and things. Which is why it's really helpful to have the dropdown run history bar for easy access to run the things I use most. The problem is it doesn't keep any history unless the "Store and display recently opened programs in the start menu" option is checked...which I hate. Can I get the run history without windows 7 cluttering up the start menu or am I SOL? Thanks.

You can setup the list on start menu to zero, theres 2 ways one from start menu options or from the registry.
