Windows 7 RTM x64 Crash on resolution change

Basically I have 2 Windows 7 RTM boxes (setup via my MSDN copy) and they both have ATI video cards installed driver 9.8. They work great, but if I attempt to change resolutions or even the primary display on either of them they crash with a win32k.sys driver error every time (same exact error). This means to set the primary display I have to unplug one boot up then plug it in a reboot (repeat until the correct monitor is set to primary). needless to say this is annoying (did I forget to mention if you start a game and the resolution differs it will also crash, so I have not been able to play anything without an external configuration program) . So far I've likely crashed about 50 times between the 2 systems trying to figure out why it happens and how to fix it, and to date no luck. has anyone else encountered this most annoying issue?

Thanks,
ERIC

I had the same problem. I had to resort to the 9.3 Vista driver installed in Vista compat mode to get things working.

Interesting I did not even know that the 9.3 drivers would work on Windows 7. I did assume that it was a driver issue however. I also notice that MS has a driver they suggest I install, maybe I'll give that one a try first. Then try 9.7 ...

Thanks,

Uninstalled teh drivers as best I could and switched to the 9.3 drivers and rebooted then attempted to change resolutions. The following cause the system to crash hard:

1. Change resolution
2. Change Refresh rate
3. Change Primary/secondary monitors
4. Load a game that changes the resolution

The following do not:
1. Setting Over-scan
2. Setting 3d settings
3. Under clocking

I have about 20 hours into setting up this system and have already wasted 1 activation on it I need a way to adjust the resolution without a BSOD occurring every time (note changes are lost). ATI has been useless ether ignoring my requests (3 in the last week) or on the phone saying use the latest drivers and refusing to escalate the issue even though 2 system show the exact same MO and both have different hardware (only thing in common is the ATI drivers).

Ideas?,
