windows 7 "quicklaunch"

IE seems to have a permanent location next to the "Start" button

How can I get other programs to live there?

I tried dragging and shortcut there, and it kinda works, but it creates some weird icon that looks like some multicolored boxes with an antenna: I have to click that and then click the shortcut I want... is there anyone to just have a direct one-button-correct-icon link permanently on the task bar?

oh, it says pin to Microsoft Windows based script host...

i think i figure out why... the shortcut i'm trying to pin is a jar file loaded by a vbs file.... ugh 🙂 for some reason Win7 won't just let you pin that kind of shortcut to the startmenu, instead it has the intermediary multicolored box step 🙂

(in case anyone is wondering, yajhfc is the program... a java based client for linux hylafax server)

I have a similar question: Is there a way to pin a Control Panel item to Taskbar? I like to place Sound and Power Options in there but it won't let me.

You can pin the control panel and jumplist the item you want.
edit: right click -> pin to taskbar while its open.
