Wonder what the pricing is going to be.
I doubt we'll see any earthshaking price differences from the current Vista equivalents.

My biggest wonder is what the "Upgrade" costs will be. I'm guessing there's going to be a special "Upgrade from Vista" price, versus a standard "Upgrade from XP/2000" price. If the upgrade was the same price, people who purchased Vista already are going to be upset.

Only thing is:
If a special "Upgrade from Vista" price is offered, MS is going to have to do something about the current "loophole" in the upgrade process that lets you "upgrade" to an empty hard drive with no XP CD or XP Key required.

I'll be curious to see if Parental Controls is available on the Business edition. If Business really is a superset of Home Premium, then it will, but it wasn't on Vista; you had to go all the way to Vista Ultimate if you wanted to combine Parental Controls with, say, Software Restriction Policy.

That's a very wishful thinking, they are never going to do that for various reasons. Remember why Windows 7 was designed, it is specifically aimed at users who never wanted to upgrade from XP to Vista especially enterprise customers. The economy is not looking good, many end users aren't going spend money to buy Upgrade versions of Windows 7. The only solution is to make money by selling OEM & Enterprise licenses- since there is already a discount for volume licensing, dropping the prices further will result in lower share prices.

Does anyone know if Shadow Copy will be included in any of these? Didn't see it mentioned off hand unless it's been named something else now.

My guess is that the retail upgrade editions will be $99 for Home Premium (Maybe as high as $129) and the Pro version will be $199).

Considering, at release the retail upgrades for Vista were $99 for Home Basic, $129 for Home Premium and $199 for Business. For XP they were $99 for Home and $199 for Professional.

I honestly don't know. I really hope they added it to Home Premium with Previous Versions this time.

Same here. I didn't have Vista Ultimate or Business and had tried out Server 2008 for awhile (just to play around with as a workstation) and I loved shadow copy. There are some features I think as a "moving forward" statement that should be made standard in all additions.

As a matter of fact they should dump this whole MS "flavors" of Windows stuff. There should be a "you got most of the good stuff" and "you have more than needed" editions, and that's it.

Why would they be upset? By the time W7 hits shelves, Vista will be over 2 1/2 years old. I feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of Vista. I use it for at least a couple of hours every single day of my life pretty much.

Well i would be ticked if i paid for vista, considering the short life vista had compared to XP and the minimal amount of features it added. Im glad i got vista for free as a student.

They are getting greedy. Putting Mobility Center in Professional is bull shit. Notebooks now outsell desktop's but only "Professional's" need it? Horse shit I say. This should be included in home premium.

What major OEMs do not already make their own third party "mobility center" for their laptops?

I think it's pointless to complain about that.

I'd rather see the features that control mobile stuff on the OS level instead of some buggy piece of crap OEM software.
