Windows 7 problem

Had a BSOD last week, when I'd reboot I'd get the windows startup sound, a black screen a cursor and nothing else. If I let it sit there for about 10 minutes it would eventually crash and restart. It would do the same thing if I let it set there. It gave me a repair option, I tried that. It scanned and told me there's nothing wrong with my OS. Last good configuration didn't work either. So I tried the Win 7 DVD with a repair (upgrade) install. It told me in order to upgrade the OS I had to boot into it and run the DVD again.

I have a lot of programs and customization put into my Win 7, and I'm not interested in a clean install. I'm trying to figure out a way to fix this. I swapped out my MB to one with a new chipset thinking 7 would poop out and let me reinstall - no such luck. Anyone here have any ideas? If it comes down to not being able to fix my install I'll just stick with Ubuntu and forget Windows all together. I really would like to fix it.

2nd question, if I were to install Windows 7 on a different HD is there any sort of way I can import the registery from the borked install? Or transfer everything over.
