Windows 7 Pro 64bit and exessive fan use.

Just installed Windows 7 64bit this evening on my Toshiba laptop and so far im enjoying it. Been doing some light surfing, installing some basic programs like Open Office, an anti virus, and what not. I have noticed that my fan kicks into hyper mode for no reason and stays on for an extremely long time. I put my hand in front of the vent and the air coming out is rather cool so I dont think its a heat issue. Is there someplace within Windows 7 where I can adjust fan settings? Anyone else experience this?

If you go to control panel and then to system and security. Then go to power options. Find your plan and click change plan settings. Then click change advanced plan settings. There should be some settings in there you can change.

No change in my fan usage on a Dell Studio 15 (1555) going from Vista 64-bit to Win 7 64-bit.

Did you have a special Toshiba power profile before or did you just use XP's power management? How about on W7?

I had Vista on this laptop before and used the standard power settings, using the standard Windows 7 power settings now. Guess ill play around and see what I can find here.

You also might need to install the toshiba power managment software as well, check to see if there is an update to windows 7 or you should be able to use the vista version

Just updated my BIOS from 1.5 to 1.8 and that seems to have fixed the problem. There is a Toshiba all in one update pack for Windows 7 which I am hesitant to install because im sure its filled with all kinds of bloated crap that ill never use.
