Ok so I thought I'd check www.play.com, a European online store, for the pre-orders of Windows 7 and this is what I find...
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium E / Retail EUR 97.49
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional E / Retail EUR 233.99
Like it says, these are supposedly full retail versions including both 32- and 64-bit versions. It says also:
Please Note: The special introductory offer from Microsoft has now sold out.
So these aren't the pre-order special low prices (obviously), but let's take a look at how much Vista costs.
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (SP1) EUR 207.99
So... Windows 7 isn't even half the price of Vista?
The OEM 32-bit Vista Home Premium costs EUR 129.99 but, well that's OEM.
So why is Windows 7 Home Premium so cheap? Could it be that it's OEM even though they state that it's the retail version and comes with both the 32- and 64-bit versions.
And why was haven't Microsoft announced the pricing for OEM versions? That's what I'm probably buying but EUR 97.49 sounds a bit too good to pass for full retail.
