Windows 7 power problem

So I have Windows 7 installed on my laptop. Recently I have found that if I unplug the power source and run on just battery, my desktop background and start menu bar changes color. As in the desktop background will change to an entirely different picture. Windows theme changes completely as well. As soon as I plug the power back in, it changes back. Anyone know what the deal is? This only started happening recently. I have never had this problem prior.

Most laptops have in the BIOS and the OS settings for Screen Brightness and contrast under Power plugin, and battery only.

It might be that the settings of battery only mode are too low, or totally Off the default.

Yeah, are you mistaking a brightness change in the LCD for a color change?

No. The background as in the wallpaper changes, and the theme of the entire laptop changes as well. That is what's mind boggling to me

In the windows 7 power options-> change plan settings -> advanced settings there is a setting for "desktop background settings".

You might check to see if there's a power management app running from the laptop's manufacturer. There could be a setting in there for it too.
