Kickass!

10:25 a.m. PT: Scott Stanfield, CEO of design house Vertigo showing a prototype Netflix app on a Windows Phone. He starts playing "Rescue Me" on his phone. This gets a lot of applause from the crowd and definitely would be a cool feature to have on a phone.

we need to start leveling the playing field for apps. usually it's 1 platform that gets a huge advantage for a certain app. the other platforms get a port and are left in the dust. usually it's the iPhone getting the best (IM+, Facebook, etc etc) while other platforms like WinMo and Android are left behind... although it's funny IM+ used to be bomb for WinMo compared to S60, but once iPhone came in, they just ditched the others....

I'd like to see something like this for ALL phones.

Well, the iPhone won't even support Flash. Netflix requires MS's Silverlight. Don't know if we'll ever see Apple support Silverlight.

Until there's only one platform, this is going to happen. And we don't want there to be only one platform.

Anywho, yea, the Netflix streaming looks great. The other app demos look pretty solid too. WP7 is shaping up nicely. If only it were debuting sooner than Fall...

On one hand, I'm pissed that they appear to be ditching the Zune HD half a year after they released it. It's a great PMP, don't get me wrong, but they really should have waited if they were going to release a new general mobile platform. At a minimum, they should have kept support for it in XNA 4.0...

On the other hand, this new platform looks insanely awesome enough that I'd consider just selling the Zune HD and my existing smartphone and buying it right there and then.

In the mean time it's easy to watch movies on a WM6.1 Touch Pro 2, just load em on a micro SD. You can even hook up the TP2 to a tv to watch them on a larger screen.

Can't this be done on an iphone ? What about a Droid ?

Apple has enough pull if they wanted they could have Netflix make an iPhone specific version. Shit they got Youtube to basically convert every video they got. With that said, I'll be interested to see the WM7 phone in action, and if they have a Verizon version I might jump on buying one.

AT&T's craptastic network weeps at the thought of Netflix users trying to stream movies over it.

Yes, you can watch movies on the Droid. I don't think there's any way to hook it up to a larger display though.

Netflix streaming is cool, and would be pretty neat if it came to Android. Very few opportunities where I would stream a 1 or 2 hour video though.

er, was the move to h264 from youtube a push from apple, or was in long in the works already? I could have sworn they were slowly converting their back catalog before the iphone. Mainly because flash video sucked
