Windows 7 - Performance between Versions

A friend of mine just purchased a new laptop:

Asus K55A, Intel Core i5, 6GB memory, 750GB hard drive

Windows 7 Home Edition. He thinks the system is running slower than it should, and he has mentioned that he heard that windows 7 home does not perform as well as the other versions. Is this accurate in any way, or is it perhaps power management?

Thank you,

Chris

It is slow because of the bloatware that the laptop ships with. Also, I beleive that this laptop comes with a 5400rpm harddrive, which is slow compared to 7200rpm or SSD.

There is no performance difference between different windows 7 versions.

Actually the Starter and Home are slightly more agile because they have smaller footprint.

However, fast or slow in technology is a matter of objective numbers and Not FEELINGs.

So if the "Feeling Slow" users will do some common Benchmarks or, and would time the Slowww it will easier to provide credible feedback.

All versions perform about the same. Especially between Home, Pro, Ult and Enterprise.

Tell him to get rid of all the crapware that came with the machine.

The problem is the harddisk, it will make everything load slow and feel slow. .. specially if its a 5400 rpm

Getting an SSD would solve this problem.
(recommend: crucial m4 or samsung 830 or plextor)

I'm still puzzled as to why OEMs are still shipping machines with 5400rpm drives. Even apple is still doing it. It's crazy and rather annoying.

Because they make $30 - $50 more with the less expensive drives.

That is Good because it keeps price lower.

Please be aware that the 95% non Enthusiast does Not feel or care about the few seconds slowness here and there.

Most mainstream people love their computing devices, but they are Not in Love with them. :D
