hi i have a question i am looking at getting the oem version 64 bit windows 7 .my question is once you install it and say dow the the line you have to reformat will it let you reinstall again ? i heard that it takes an image of the components you have installed .lets say down the line you add a new hard drive or something and you have to reinstall windows what problems are there? do you have to call microsoft for a license key or what? would hate to have to pay extra 100 dollars for retail.

You can reinstall it on the same hardware a indefinite number of times. Sometimes with enough hardware changes you'll get challenged to reactivate, but it should reactivate fine. Oem is technically tied to your mb. Change to a different mb, and you're supposed to get a new Windows. MS has historically been very lenient about reactivating with mb changes, but they don't have to be according to their EULA.

I've changed out components many times on an OEM license, sometimes it's not big deal, other times I've had to call MS to reactive when I reinstalled. I've called more than 5 times over the years and have never had a problem with them giving me a new code to type in and be off the phone in less than 10 minutes.
