Windows 7 + New Motherboard, No Activation Required

Hello,

I very recently installed a new motherboard and processor and reformatted my hard drive and installed a fresh version of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Windows activated without requesting a new product key.............

Happy Days,

Soth

HD wouldn't matter, since it was only a reformat.
CPU might not matter, depending if it was in the same class.
MB may not matter either, depending if it was also the same type it was before.
So, possible...

Not sure why the OP posted what they posted though... it was a statement, without anything stating from what to what in the upgrade process.

There have been a few part swap/Windows validation threads lately... I think OP is just trying to be helpful. 😀

I'm actually fixing to find out myself in January when I rebuild my backup computer and W8.1. Hmmm... maybe I'll just buy another W7 license. 😕

I went from a Llano system to haswell. I know the only thing that should matter is MB, and my oem version of windows 7 ultimate validated automatically.

I made this thread because I thought a motherboard swap would require a new windows key.

I had to reinstall Windows 7 again three weeks ago. Usually I have to go through the phone activation scheme. This time it took the online activation.

Replaced a Core i7 920 recently with Xeon X5650, Win7 needed reactivation, did it through the phone system and it took around 10 minutes or so.
I'm glad they implemented that phone-automated system.

Huh, that is really odd then.
AMD -> intel pretty much always requires reactivation.
Where did you get the OEM copy of win 7 from ?

If you ever need to activate windows via phone you can also type slui 4 at the command prompt and bring the window up. This is especially handy when windows doesn't offer you the phone box but requires activation.
