Windows 7 Networking

I just getting going on Win 7 and one of the things I don't like is how it does networking. Win XP was simple - all I had to do was right-click on a folder and share it on the network. With Win 7 sharing isn't available unless I enable the home network. Then it seems like EVERYTHING is shared - for instance, my "Documents" folder is accessible from my old Win XP machine even tho I didn't check the "share documents" radio button. What the heck is going on here? Is there any way I can get Win 7 to act like Win XP did? I've never bothered w/anything fancy like a domain before but I'm wondering if I should do that now.

Any advice or explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Joe
