windows 7 media player streaming

so, i just got a 360. i wanted to try the media sharing. as background, on my ps3, music sharing worked great in VISTA. i have NOT tried it with win7 yet. so both win7 and 360 are new to me. i finally figured out how to get media player to share. on the win7 side, i added g:\my music to the library. i also added g:\videos to the library. in windows, both are there and work fine.

moving to the 360, when i go to the music screen, i select my computer and my mp3s are there. great!

if i go to the video screen, i see g: and if i click that, i get "my music". i apparently have a music video in my mp3 collection cuz there is one video that shows up. i verified it it actually there on my computer. my g:\videos folder is no where to be found. im not sure what i need to do to get that to show up. its added to the list of directories in wmp just like "my music" is.

i thought wmp shared everything thats in its own library. i havent messed withe the 360's media center piece yet. maybe i need to try that. but am i missing something obvious?

check your sharing settings to make sure videos are actually being shared. There are selections to share any, all or none of music, pictures and video. Also make sure your videos are actually in your WMP library.

This was the coolest feature of Windows 7 to me. I was so surprised when i started up my ps3 and saw the server listed.

the videos are actually in wmp library. i added the directory just as i did my mp3 directory. they show up when i click on videos in the left pane. i thought i poked around in every conceivable menu already and didnt see anything saying only share music but i will look again when i get home today.

What kind of video files are they?
just random vids ive collected over the years from the internet. the bulk are plain old mpeg files, some are avi. no fancy pants h.264 or divx or weird codec stuff.

so, i poked around and as far as i could tell, everything was being shared except documents. and for some reason, my videos were now showing up. nothing changed. at most both the 360 and PC have been power cycled... it does suck that while windows can play all but like 3 files without downloading any codecs, less than half will play on 360. lame. oh well, ill mainly use it for music anyway more so than videos.

Homer:

I had little luck getting all my files to stream from WMP to Xbox 360.

So some helpful people on this board made a recommendation:

It's your friend. Great free app.......

For any issues related to Media Center and/or xbox streaming, I'd highly recommend the greenbutton forums. People there focus 100% on these issues.
