Hi Everyone! Got a problem with my newish PC build that I cant quite figure out.

I have a fairly new build with
i7-2600k, gtx570, 16gb ram (G.Skill), 120gb Crucial m400 SSD (primary drive), Asrock Z68 Extreme4 mobo, Samsung spinpoint 1tb utilizing a 60gb c300 SSD with Smart Response Technology, and external sound through a Scarlett 1816 box, PSU is 650 watt.

The operating system will completely lock up from time to time and I can do nothing but restart the box. It's almost like a complete system freeze and the mouse disappears from the screen. I cant even control alt delete at this point, but I still see my desktop background (cant click anything). It seems to happen most when I am using adobe flash along with other video (maybe two flash windows at once) or maybe editing in photoshop. Although it also seems to happen very rarely without my browser open at all. I use both Firefox and Chrome regularly both have the latest adobe flash plugin.

Last symptom I am wondering about, my performance index has always been straight 7.9 for all options but recently my primary disk transfer rate dropped down to a 5.9 (not sure if this is because now my SSD is having problems or if windows did an update to the indexing).

Anyone have any ideas here? I have run a memtest on the ram with memtest86+ and it is fine (ran it over night no issues). Thinking about swapping out video cards but it just doesnt make sense to me that a problem with GPU hardware could cause this. I want to blame bad NVideo GTX570 drivers because occasionally I will get a message about the display drivers not working and resetting but if it was just the drivers for the vid card it shouldnt take down the whole Operating System.. could it be SSD related? Or maybe Windows 7 install is starting to get corrupted? Again.. no dump file is created and no logs in the event viewer :(

Thanks for your input!

Well if there are no crashes due to blue screen and nothing in event viewer I suspect a hardware type problem. Check all you computer connections there might be a loose connection causing the problem. Also maybe heat related so get some software to check the temps of the system. make sure system is clean no dirt/dust problems.

I thought about the dust/heat issue and opened the case to clear it out awhile back so this I dont think is an issue. In terms of connection, if there was a serious problem with the connection it wouldnt happen intermittently like this because the box never moves it just sits on the floor and also everything in the case locks in to place. I have a Cooler Master 212 after market heatsync which should be suitable for the core to stay cool at all times even under intense use..

Wondering if the SSD might have bad sectors? Is this a problem with ssd drives like with hard disk drives? Just seems wierd the index would drop from 7.9 to 5.9

starting to suspect the SSD at this point, anyone got any info on SSD related freezing? Whats it look like? How did you confirm it was your ssd?

I have no experience yet with SSD yet but you could treat like a hard drive problem and try copying you system to another drive (I wold do a normal SATA non SSD drive) with a copying program like Acronis True Image (you can get a trial version)to see if problem remains. Of course that assumes you have another drive you can copy to.
