Windows 7 issue

So every time I try to drag and drop a file in any folder I keep getting a its already being used error. I think it has something to do with administartor stuff, I been using Win XP the whole time so I think I am missing a step to move a file in Win 7 or something is not configuered right. Its driving me nuts!

edit: so one of the folders I went into the options for it, and went to the security tab write and modify are unchecked, and they are greayed out so how can I check them!

That's certainly not normal, are they large files (typically video)? Sometimes Vista/W7 can be scanning the file to generate a preview thumbnail (you can see the address bar at the top of a folder have a semi transparent green progress bar indicating progress). The security tab being greyed out means that it's inheriting permissions from it's parent folder.

It's also worth noting that you need admin permission to move a file to the root of OS install drive, Windows, System32, and Program Files.

It is just a folder on my desktop, 5megs. But I found out I can copy and past it were I need it to go then just delete it. But its a little bit annoying having to have administrator permissions to move files in program files gerr

I found I can't "safely remove" my external hard drive from the little pop-up menu (it says it's in use). I have to open up the device window and "safely remove" it from there.

same, I know its a beta trying to see if its my error or really a Beta oriented issue. I like Win 7 so far very fast, not sluggish at all.

Annoying yes, but it's good security practice and helps stop malware/virues planting their payload in crucial places. Lets face it, program files is generally not modified that often after the initial install of your default programs.

The security problem could be the actual file itself. Typically if you had a load of files created on an earlier version of windows and have migrated to Vista or Windows 7 the permissions got borked on those files.

I had to take ownership of my entire D drive which has my data, all because those files were created by an 'Administrator' account on a different version of Windows. This meant because of a SID that didn't exist on the new Windows install I couldn't do anything without prompts coming up left right and centre.

Program Files is a protected folder. You're not supposed to be able to modify (create, move, rename, delete, edit) anything in the Program Files directory without elevating to Administrator privileges if I remember correctly.
