Windows 7 install/unistall, licensing question

So I've got Windows 7 64-bit Pro Full version on a laptop that doesn't really need to be the "Pro" version (did the $30 student deal). Soon, I want to build a desktop that will need Win 7 Pro.

Can I buy Win 7 HP upgrade, install that on the laptop and be free to install Win 7 Profession on the new build? Will that be a fairly easy process?

Thanks.

1. Remove the copy of windows 7 64bit pro full from the laptop (legal)
2. restore the laptop to vista using your restore media (legal)
3. Use the win7 hp upgrade to upgrade legally to win7 (legal)
4. use your retail win7 pro to install on new pc.

very easy and legal.

All said above is correct. And depending on the age and seller of the laptop, you may be able to get Windows 7 from the co (HP / Dell) as an upgrade for very little cost.

It was an HP purchased in August '08 from Staples, I do not believe there's any sort of discount, but if you know of one, please let me know.

That's good to know it's not too tricky (not that I would expect it to be, but Microsoft has been known to make "easy" things more difficult than they need to be, esp w/ licenses involved). So good news, that will save me... hang on, I just looked Win7 Pro Full OEM is only $140... Maybe I won't save that much money after all, haha. DOH!

Well, then it back to buying it from a place like Newegg or whoever has the best cost for the version you want. Or perhaps you can qualify for Student Pricing, usually if
you are in school.
