I put the main drive in another computer and reformat/delete all partitions and make the disk MBR.

But when I go to clean install windows 7, it always makes the disk GPT. The problem is that acronis true image can't backup hard drives as GPT.

I'm pulling my hair out on this, because I got this to work a week ago and installed the os and the drive was mbr.. I was able to backup the OS, but now I want a clean install for some reasons.

Any help?

Could be your partition is too large, could be a BIOS setting.

How big is the drive? How big is the Windows partition you're creating? MBR partition tables can't address drives >2TB so Windows is probably doing you a favor.

That's exactly what it is. When installing Windows in UEFI mode, it will default to GPT. Whereas in BIOS mode it will default to MBR. I don't believe there's a workaround for this short of turning off UEFI.
