I have Windows 8.1 Pro on my new gaming PC. However, Im not a fan of the Metro interface. I have a copy of 7 Home Premium. I have 16GB of RAM, and no more RAM slots. Should I try to get used to 8.1 (hard) or install 7?

I spent $5 on Start8 for 8.1 and run it just like 7.

you will have trouble finding 100% working drivers. stick to it

Get StartIsBack, which is the best Start menu replacement app out there, its only 2 USD and has no limits on how many times u can activate it on the same pc. other apps like Start8, you activate 3 times and the license is blacklisted.

furthermore, StartIsBack requires no running service to operate like other start menu alternatives out there, the 30 demo is fully functional as well so you can try it

There is no reason to make a computer "harder" to use, but a startup replacement as corkyg mentioned will probably make it easy enough.

Get a free trial of startisback or start8, and see if you really want to go back to 7.

Windows 8.1 Pro is much better than Windows 7 home premium. I'm also using StartisBack. A very nice piece of software.

I think that windows8 has downgrade rights to allow you to downgrade to win 7 pro, not sure of how to do it though.

I didn't write that post as the definitive argument for why everyone should adopt Win8, I was simply volunteering a potentially useful fact that might be relevant to the OP's future plans, especially considering that they said that they have 16GB RAM already.

in what ways?

DX 11.1/11.2, DX 2D GPU accelerated everything so everything is much snappier (assuming you have the drivers and hardware), built in .iso support, storage spaces, revamped task manager, better security in the guts of the kernel, and an OS that isn't 5yrs old and won't get any meaningful additions (i.e. 7). I fail to see how Win 8 is "hard". A stoned blind gerbil could figure it out. :p
