Hello all,

I have two questions about Windows 7 home basic:

1. Can Windows 7 home basic be joined and work in a classic workgroup and be visible with other workgroup PCs? (i am not talking about homegroup but workgroup)

2. Can Windows 7 home basic create and dial a VPN connection towards another computer?

Thanks

I don't think there is a Windows 7 Home Basic. I thought the lowest entry was Windows 7 Starter Edition.

Sorry, I so the Home basic at the right but I did not pay attention to the top.

Windows 7 Starter is an OEM sold through Vendors of NetBooks.

Windows 7 Basic
is a special edition sold in what is called “Emerging Markets”. I.e. , countries with economy and income structure that need special consideration in pricing so that people can afford learning and using computers.

I know for sure that it fully compatible with regular peer-to-peer workgroups.

I have installation of all versions of Windows 7 but Home Basic (I am in the USA which probably would be downgraded to “Emerging Markets” in few years :sneaky: - :hmm: ).

Windows 7 Starter does not support VPN, so I would not be surprised if Basic does not support it either, but I do not know for sure.

Ok, i tried installing it in virtual machine. It works with workgroups. It also can create a VPN connection, can accept incoming connections but can not share it's internet connection (ICS).

Sorry, forgot to mention that i live in Southern Europe. SO Home Basic version is available here. It's the same like Home Premium but has Windows Aero and Media Center disabled.

Cheers,
