I'm migrating my desktop system and programs from a Raptor 150Gb to an SSD. I'm a photographer and mostly use raw processor software, Photoshop, Firefox and the Office suite.
Hard Drive Set-Up:
- Raptor 50Gb partition: System and Programs
- Raptor 25Gb partition: Scratch disk, caches, and all temporary and scratch files
- Raptor 75Gb partition: All "work in progress" consisting of raw files for I/O
- WD 640Gb partition: My documents, pictures, and music (about 500Gb worth of files)
- External: 5Tb of raw files connected via eSATA when need be.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz FSB 1333MHz
MOBO: Asus P5K-E (socket LGA 775)
RAM: 8Gb (4x 2Gb) G.Skill F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ DDR2 1000 5-5-5-15 2.0-2.1V
GPU: eVGA 8800GTS 320Mb
OS: Windows 7
4Gb ReadyBoost
I moved My documents, pictures, and music to a separate drive from the system and programs to keep the back-up process clean as well as limit the files that are part of the "system" partition (since My documents are within the "system" drive by default), limiting the "system" size and fragmentation.
With this said, I've re-organized My documents into an seldom used "Archive" outside of My documents and "My documents" now only contains the files I use day to day. This limits the size of "My documents" to about 30Gb.
I'm planning on putting the System (Windows 7), Programs, AND "My [current] documents" (30Gb) on the SSD, keep my cache/swap/temporary files on the Raptor 25Gb partition and my archives, pictures, and music on the WD 640Gb.
MY QUESTIONS:
I'm trying to limit the amount of non-critical writes to the SSD to keep the SSD size down as well as not deteriorate the performance of the SSD...
1 - I noticed my "\<User>\AppData\" folder is several Gb in size. Should I keep this folder on the SSD system drive or move it to the Raptor or WD640GB?
2 - Should I structure my files and partitions differently than what I'm thinking about?
Thanks in advance!!!
If you require additional information on my system, please don't hesitate to ask.
