Windows 7 good enough for Media center pc?

I'm considering the windows 7 beta for my media center pc which I primarily use to watch movies(netflix & Hulu) and it also doubles as my secondary gaming rig.
Is W7 stable and trustworthy enough to install on this type of system or should I stick with an older OS?

It's fine for it. But the system will no longer function when the beta expires, so you'll be forced to reinstall come April. If you want to avoid this, go with Vista Home Premium.

Vista home premium doesn't support 64bit.

Doesn't Windows 7 Beta expire in August? And by that time hopefully a new beta would be out (or the Windows 7 itself). I am in the same boat as the OP - don't want to buy Vista now and pay MS again later this year for Windows 7.

I've been using it on my HTPC. The new media center is much improved, although it seems a bit slower to respond to inputs than the Vista one. But otherwise, it works great for everything I need it for, and its been plenty stable.

I highly doubt Win7 will come out this year. But if this is the case, you might want to hold off to June/July to buy Vista, then you will get a coupon for a free upgrade to Win7.

OR alternatively, you could subscribe to TechNet Plus, and have a one year subscription that you get keys for Vista (and a whole bunch of other things) and if within one year, Win7 does come out, you also get a legal key for the OS too.

Where did you hear this?

Hear what? That TechNet Plus has CD Keys for Windows? I am a subscriber to TechNet Plus as well as MSDN. Thats how I know.

Edit// Oops, I didn't see the bold: here, here, and here.

Though, I'm not entirely sure if its new PC only or if it includes buying software only.
