build a new desktop and install Windows 7, all MS udates and have been experancing stuttering of Audio/mouse followed by freeze of screen and then frezze of mouse. System has to be reset to come out of it and this happens at random time from soon after the system has been started to several hours.

Spec
i5 2600K (not overclocked)
Corsair Vengence 2*4Gb (stock voltage and freq)
Intel dp67bg
8800 gtx 640mb
ocz vertex 2
Windows 7 64bit

running all the latest drivers and experencing freezes
running Audio and usb windows drives and experencing freezes

Event viewer shows no issues other than the reset.
sometimes it will blip and start working again

Sounds like a hardware problem. Try a Memtest86 run - I find it easiest to do from Ultimate Boot CD.

I agree this sounds like hardware.

In my experience, this could be an improperly seated heat sink on your proc, or even bad memory. I suggest checking temps in the bios, then running a memtest as oynaz also mentioned above.

If you can't see anything in terms of hardware, try and rule out OS and/or drivers by throwing a quick and dirty XP or Linux install on a removeable drive.

I ran mentest86+ V4.2 for a usb flash drive, With both sticks of memory it wouldn't run, just kept rebooting after 20seconds, tried in safemode for one pass with no errors, but i move my mouse and it rebooted Same thing for each stick indivually wouldn't run in normal mode but in safe mode ran with no errors for one pass and then i touch the mouse only to have it reboot changed the mouse (old wireless logitech) to a new wireless logitech and it seams stable so far.... I will run memtest all day tomorrow when im at work. I hope it was just the mouse, but wtf ? any ideas

Ran Memtest86+ V4.2 in safemode today with both stick of memory for 7 (almost 8) passes with no fail. I wish something obvious would just go :(

I have no idea what is causing the fails Passes memtest 8 passes today and only rebooted when i touched the mouse. Is it possible memtest isn't testing all of the memory ???

No, Memtest tests the entirety of a system's RAM. Your issue does not look to be memory related.

Try using another USB port for your mouse. Or try another mouse.

If that doesn't work:

1. Try using another video card.

2. Try using another hard drive with W7 installation. It might be the SSD.

3. Install the memory stick one at a time. Find out which one is working. Do you have another memory stick lying around? Try that one too.

4. What is your power supply?
