Windows 7 - folders change date modified when just open & closed?

This is really bothering me!

I sort by "date modified", but just opening and closing folders is changing the "date modified" to todays date even though I didn't "modify" anything in the folder??

What kind of content is in the folder ? If it is photos or music and an application is displaying the content in the folder or windows itself is then it can show that. If you enable showing of hidden or system files look for the file thumbs.db in the folder, windows usually creates that.
