Windows 7: First install on a new build

I just finished installing Windows 7 on my new build (in the signature below). This was a pristine install. Two things that I noticed and that are bothering me:

(1) When I go to Computer, I see a floppy disk drive (A. However, there is no floppy drive on my system.

(2) When I go to Disk Management, I see both my HDD and DVD burner listed as IDE under Type field. Both drives are SATA.

So what gives?

BTW, the only thing I have doe so far after hardware assembly is to install Windows 7 and the Gigabyte chipset drivers. I have only one HDD, which I partitioned into 3 parts (1) 30GB for Windows 7 and applications (2) 15GB for Ubuntu and applications and (3) the remaining 500+GB for data. And that leads to the last question - is there any benefit to having a separate partition for the swap file, and if so, how big should that be considering I have 8GB RAM.

I think you need to disable Floppy in the BIOS. Mine did that with Vista and I was freaked out.
As for the IDE, I would look on the BIOS and see if there is a setting for IDE controller vs SATA, but don't tinker around too much in there unless you know what your doing. Someone else might be able to shed more light on that one.

Computers are Not people they do not think on their own.

The OS gets its info from the BIOs and displays standard text.

Win7 is in beta and its documentation mention that at this stage it is fully compatible only with few chipsets.

Thus if ii working OK ignore the text display and use the Beta OS in Good health.

Well, i think the OS is doing what it is supposed to. I went into the BIOS and set it to "No Floppy drive" and that took care of the first problem. For the HDD and DVD drive problem, they show up as IDE in the BIOS. The BIOS is set for auto detection/configuration for storage drives. Would appreciate a pointer on how to fix this.

It s a normal thing, i wouldn't stress to much about that, could have something to do with the sata setting in legacy mode in BIOS. you'd have to go in manual and check.
