"The Windows 7 Family Pack will be available starting on October 22nd until supplies last here in the US and other select markets. In the US, the price for the Windows 7 Family Pack will be $149.99 for 3 Windows 7 Home Premium licenses. That?s a savings of more than $200 for three licenses. This is a great value and we?re excited to be able to offer it to customers."

Hmmm...."until supplies last"? Also, the Windows Anytime Upgrades don't include any special bargains for Vista Ultimate owners. Bummer.

So can you purchase a family pack that has full licenses (i.e. NOT an upgrade)?

If you look at the packaging for the family pack it does say "upgrade designed for Windows Vista" in the upper left hand corner.

So probably its upgrade version.

I wonder if it will upgrade from XP, like the regular retail Win7 upgrades, or whether the familiy pack is only for upgrading from Vista?

First, this photo from the original article shows that it's an "Upgrade" version.

Second, I haven't seen any details, but it's inconceivable that this upgrade wouldn't work the same way as the other W7 upgrade packages, meaning it'll work for XP and Vista.
