Windows 7 Explorer issues

So I've been trying out the W7 RC.

First thing I noticed is that the bar on top for quickly changing how files are sorted is missing in any view other than Details view. I generally like to use List view and now I have to right click and use the context menu to change sorting and I cannot easily see how my files are sorted.

Second, in Vista on the left pane of Explorer you can have the folders view which dynamically shows folders as you use them, making it very handy to navigate back and forth between folders. In Windows 7 this appears to be gone... all you see is the favorite folders and none of the folders you are using on the right will open up here. This is a big loss of usability.

Third, you can no longer drag and drop files within Explorer to resort them into a custom order. You can sort them based on the set criteria in Windows and that's all. To me, this is a huge loss of function and something I use regularly. I was shocked to see this functionality gone. WTF????

Now, it will remain to be seen if these are just accidental ommissions due to this being a beta or if these things were intentionally removed in an effort to simplify and 'dumb down' the OS. Very little else has changed with Explorer except for minor conmetic and presentation differences, so it's hard to see how this stuff could have gotten 'broken' if it's just being transferred over from Vista. It really looks like these things are being removed intentionally. Big disappointment.

Dont have a solution, looks like the bar is gone (like you said) except in detail view (which kind of makes sense, but I can see how you'd want a shortcut to short).

Right click over there and select 'show all folders'

No solution either (actually Im not sure I even knew you could do this. What scenarios do you use this with?)

This is the RC, you shouldn't expect fixes to issues like this between now and release. This is a very close to final (behaviour wise)

Hmm. It works for me. In Folder Options make sure both "Show all folders" and "Automatically expand to current folder" are checked.

It looks like there is no way to turn off Auto Arrange. On XP you could manually arrange in Thumbnail, Icon, and Tile view. Win7 doesn't seem to allow it at all.

I use Details view almost all the time so I have never arranged manually, but I can understand that this loss of functionality could be frustrating for some people.

Wow, WTF indeed. I bet you it's a quick fix though if enough people complained about it.

Another weird thing is I found out what happens if you hold down F5 on your desktop for too long. :D
