Windows 7 Drivers Help

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate. I am unable to find 3 drivers for my laptop. When I go to the Compaq's website they will not support the 3 drivers for Windows 7. Mass Storage Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Modem. I'm also unable to get the Media Card Reader to work. Any advice?

I have a Compaq V2312US AMD Turion 64. I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate and everything else seems to work fine...

did you set device drivers to be automatically downloaded through windows update? If not, that's a step in the right direction. Might also try the windows 7 compatibility website. There might be a chance that if there is a not a windows driver, the manufacturer of those chipsets have them. If there is no way to find the manufacturer from those sources, try finding the parts/components list for the model. Usually they use a broad-application chip for card readers/audio jack ports; so if you can't find an exact model, likely one driver covers a bunch of similar devices.

Be carefult letting windows update auto-update everything for you. When I set up my new machine I immediately lost my network connection because windows decided it had a driver I needed that didn't work with my hardware. I leave windows update set to auto-notify, manual download and install. That way I can review what they want me to install, and if I have any doubts install them one at a time and make sure nothing breaks.

agreed- I always make it ask before even downloading, let alone installing, updates. I was referring to the option to automatically find device drivers if those packaged with windows don't suite a device. I think one can limit the autonomy of this too.

You will first need to determine who the providers are for those missing devices. Download a low-level diagnostic tool like Everest. (no installation required)

Unzip in a folder and run it as administrator. Then go to 'Summary' tab and find out which chipset the board is based on. Then go to 'Motherboard' -> 'Chipset' and see who's providing storage/audio controllers. It may look something like this:

Once you determined each device and manufacturer, you can 1) go to the manufacturer's site and search for the drivers, or 2) try using drivers for Vista.

Thank you everyone for your help. When I get off work today I will try and provide post my results.
