Windows 7 doesn't print to Wireless Printer

On Windows 7, I can set up the printserver and right after I set it up, it will work perfectly fine. After a reboot, printing to the printserver will keep telling me that the printer is offline when it is not. If I delete the printer and add it again, it works fine until the next reboot.

On Vista and XP this doesn't happen. Any ideas on how to fix?

Did you assign a Static IP to the printer?

Did you install the printer's drivers and configure the connection to the printer with the printer's Utility on the Win 7 computer?

Yes I installed the right drivers and configured Windows 7. It'll print but after a reboot it won't. I have to remove the printer and reconfigure it with the exact same settings I used before and the same driver.

maybe you should tell the print server spooler to delay on startup in 7?

sounds like it might be firing up print spool service before network connection/authentication (being wireless?)

check out services.msc and automatic (delayed) and dependencies.

I had to tweak my vcenter server to depend on SQL server because the machine is so slow it would try to start vcenter which is dependent on sql server and 90% of the time it would fail because vcenter would start before sql had its chance of getting online and listening.

Printer is a Canon Pixma MP830 and the printserver is a Dlink DP-G310

By the way, don't ever buy that print server. I bought mine at a garage sale for a buck and I feel like I over paid. The stupid thing overheats, I've had to open the case and put it next to an AC Vent for it to work properly but on large documents it still freezes.

just stop and restart it and see what happens when it cannot find the printer online.

it should be set to start automatic and be running when you find start

start -> services.msc

obviously as administrator.

sure. restarting the printer spooler service as long as nobody isn't printing anything to your print server is de-facto standard to getting things unjammed with windows too.

The service name on Windows 7 is called Print Spooler. I restarted that service and also stopped, waited 30 sec and restarted it. The printer still appears as offline. Any other ideas?

can you ping it or telnet to port 9100 of the printers ip? or it's web interface?

Considering that print server was End of life in '07 - it isn't even compatible with windows 7. I'd say get a new print server or a new printer with built in networking.

Yes, I can access it's web interface.

I am looking into an other print server but there has to be a way to get my existing one to work. Even though it's not compatible with Windows 7, it's only a network device and should work. It works with XP and Vista so I don't see why it wouldn't with Windows 7.

p.s. you did remove ipv6 from your win7 network interface right?

I can access it via IP by typing in it's IP to a web browser from the Windows 7 laptop.

I don't know what the other ways of access it are.

What is this ipv6 that I need to remove?

Whenever you added the printer in Windows 7 during the add Printer wizard, did you add it as a local printer with a tcp/ip port or as a network printer?

I tried both. First I installed it as a local printer with a new TCP/IP port which is what I do on all my XP computers. It worked, until reboot. I then deleted the printer/port and redid it with the network printer. Again, it worked until a reboot. After a reboot it just says that the printer is offline and doesn't even try to print/connect to it.
