I have a very odd windows 7 issue on my son's pc. He told me it was blue screening, so I downloaded hiren's boot cd and ran the various virus scanner softwares. It found a lot of malware and deleted it. I then attempted to boot into windows and it will boot to safe mode fine, but when I try to boot to regular windows 7, it either hangs on loading desktop or will boot to a black screen and then say that it has a problem loading the profile service.

I think this will resolve the issue, but just think that its weird that there are corrupt profile issues now. Thoughts?

I'm not taking anything away from Hiren's boot CD, I use some of the utilities myself. But Kaspersky's Rescue Disk 10 is far more thorough and powerful than the AV's on Hiren's.

I'd suggest that before you start editing the registry you be absolutely certain that malware isn't still lurking. Burn the ISO to CD then reboot. Once loaded it will prompt you to update. It will download the latest virus definitions then use those definitions to scan your system.

Think I got it fixed. Following the advice of Bubbaleone, I downloaded the kapersky disk and updated the defs. I set it to scan everything and it found two viruses. One was a quarantined one that I had found earlier, but it also found another. I then told it to scan startup files and something else and it found another bootsector startup virus. After fixing those, the computer now boots up fine.

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this, I appreciate it.
