Windows 7 - Build 7601 copy not genuine - Windows must be restored

Windows 7 has had a mind of its own recently. I had set the updates to download but to not update. Of course it seems it is determined to update without my input at all, so when I put the computer into sleep mode I woke up this morning to find the computer on and it sitting at the login screen. I log in and I've got the "copy is not genuine" bit on the bottom right of the screen for Build 7601. Shortly after that my wallpaper was wiped to just a black screen and I'm receiving a notification that "An unauthorized change was made to Windows. You must reinstall or restore Windows system files to activate."

Any help?

Hearing WinX crap like this from AnandTech Members makes me very weary going to WinX from Win7 - I'm still a back bencher ;o)

I won't burn my bridges behind me. I don't have any problems like the OP, after installing a separate Win 10 partition/boot-volume on each of three different computers.

But I'm going through all kinds of trouble with a Win Media Center alternative and the Beta subscription to HDHR DVR. The back end of the DVR-version software seems to work fine, opening up access to premium encrypted channels. But KODI -- compared to WMC -- seems to suck, and I'm having trouble configuring just to get a successful news-program recording.

so for now? My Windows 10 installations are "experimental."

It also seems like every single post from Bonzai is about they are dual-booting.

Congratulations? They must be very proud of themselves.

Getting back to the OP's original post, to be sure is your copy of win 7 genuine? I've seen this happen with pirated copies of windows but not with a genuine copy but I have seen an update force you to reactivate windows. If you are legit you might try booting off the installation disc and running system restore.

I apologize to the OP Ketchup: I misinterpreted the content.

But if you intend to stick with Win7 until WinX proves itself, I suggest Win7 users keep a working backup and don't trust any MS update for Win7 until you have tested it.

You should use correct terminology. It's Windows 10. Someone might confuse you for the software company.
