Windows 7 Beta Free Download

Not to threadcrap but you still need a valid beta key or it'll expire after 30 days. It's time like these I am glad of my work's Technet subscription. I'm already downloading the 32 bit and 64 bit versions and will try them out on a spare computer later.

From the website Lifehacker:
"The beta (build 7000) will run just fine for 30 days without the key. Computerworld also reports that without an official Windows 7 product key, you can extend the trial from 30 to 120 days using the slmgr -rearm command. "
I'm not actually sure how to do that myself however, seeing as I have not been able to finish downloading a copy (grr, keeps stopping towards the end!)

You guys should also note that there was a bug that would wipe out a few seconds of any mp3 that it touched. There's a patch for it already that you'll need to download.

I was curious, if we were to try any updates that they may release for the beta, wouldn't it be useless to us if we didn't have a key? I haven't participated in any betas before, but I thought one of you guys might be able to point this out to me.

I'm still debating about whether it is safe enough for me to just have a separate partition for the beta or if I can just run it in parallels or some other virtual sandbox.

First, it's illegal to use cracks and such to bypass the security of software which you don't have legal access to. The rearm command however is legal.

Install Vista (or Windows 7) without a serial.

Use it till the timer hits zero days, or close enough to zero.

Open up a command window by going to the start menu and typing in "cmd" then hitting enter.

In the command window type "slmgr.vbs ?rearm" or "slmgr /rearm" which will reset the countdown until the install expires. You can do this up to three times. This will give you up to 120 days of active time without a serial. After that, you'll need a valid serial (which I luckily have).

If updates are similar to Vista you should be able to install any and all updates while under the 30 day grace period.

The keys are all the same and simply found by googling them. Apparently Microsoft isn't giving out individual keys for the beta.

I checked and apparently there are 5 keys that I found are being used for Microsoft. Sorry for the edit. Numbers for within a TechNet subscription are different, so there was my reason for the initial edit.

HERE IS A WAY ON HOW TO GET YOUR LEGITIMATE KEY FOR WINDOWS 7 BETA

Here's the steps for a key:

1. Visit TechNet Downloads, sign in at the top right and let the page load
Within
2. The same window copy and paste "<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://www.microsoft.com/beta...n-win7-64-ww&LCID=1033"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/scripts/gcs.aspx?Product=tn-win7-64-ww&LCID=1033">https://www.microsoft.co.........4-ww&LCID=1033</a></a>" into the address bar or "<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://www.microsoft.com/beta...n-win7-32-ww&LCID=1033"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/scripts/gcs.aspx?Product=tn-win7-32-ww&LCID=1033">https://www.microsoft.co.........2-ww&LCID=1033</a></a>" (64bit key but will work on 32 too, if you get an error refresh a few times)...enjoy the result below (32 bit link seems to work better), whilst stocks last. If you are still having issues try clearing your temp files and deleting all cookies.

According to Microsoft there are 2.5 million keys to go around worldwide so plenty in other words. Microsoft is also providing a QFE patch for the MP3 corruption issues that have plagued build 7000, this should be online shortly as KB961367. It's extremely important you apply this patch as you may lose parts of your MP3s if the patch is not applied. 32bit and 64bit patches are now available.

Any REAL reason to install those over Vista?

Faster, leaner, more streamlined. Think of it as a better, tweaked Vista. I think the best application of W7 is on a netbook, where Vista can't run 100% smooth and the user is someone used to Vista or someone who hates XP (me).

I wonder how well it would run on my laptop (P-M 1.7GHz 768MB RAM and some integrated intel gfx). Maybe I should try it on there for kicks. Drat, I got the 64 bit image, hard to put that on there with a 32bit CPU 😛

so this will over-write vista, etc? I'd like to try it but can't do it on my laptop I guess 🙁

Anyone have another place to download this? I keep getting to 15 percent and it acts like it is finished but only is about 380 meg.

Thanks

I used the Microsoft download manager- worked great.

I finally got it that way. It is running nicely on my little Dell D420, much better than Vista.

It won't download/install for me. It asks if I want to install it, I hit install, and it sits there and looks at me stupidly.

Until September I believe.

Still can't get the 32 bit image to download. It keeps stopping at around 400MB and the download manager won't install.
