Is anyone having trouble getting updates from Microsoft today? I just installed Windows 7 on a Braswell Nuc and it would not install any updates after trying sever fixes. I secured erased the ssd inside the Nuc. I just tried to install Windows 8 on a usb drive and it says cant connect to make an install thumb drive.

just give windows 7 a few hours and it should start updating.

as for your win 8 issue: if you already have the iso file just use rufus to install the image to the thumb drive.

I don't have the Windows 8 iso. When i go to the Microsoft Windows 8 specific media creation tool after it asks me for my product key and says its ok i get a cant connect right now error. If I try to use the general media creation tool Windows 8 is not an option. Just 8.1 and 10 are the only options.

AFAIK, the ISOs that MS is now distributing, with Windows 8.1, will accept a Windows 8 key, either entered, or pre-installed in the BIOS.

At least, I've used a MS Media download / refresh media ISO burned to a DVD, to install a fresh clean install of 8.1, on a Gateway AIO PC that came with Windows 8.

So, there's really no reason to need Windows 8, over 8.1. At least, I can't think of a reason.

Using Windows 10 11082 myself on the main rig atm.

If you want to use old things when a free upgrade is available to 7 and 8, have at it I guess.

It appears you have Win 10 on one in your sig though I guess.

If you are trying to get the updates faster, turn the update speed on high to get into the fast ring, but that might be an insider option.

MS seems to span the out, I was beta testing 10 myself when it came out, and just have continued down that route.

I have a Intel NUC5CPYH. I have 2 Windows 7 licenses and a Windows 8 license that are not being used. The ideal is to install either Windows 7 or 8(preferably) 7 then upgrade to 10. When i installed 7 and tried to do an upgrade to 10 via the media tool (desktop and upgrade this pc) the getting updates stayed at o% so i cancelled it after about 20 minutes. I figured i would have better luck with 8 installed. There is not internet connection problem as i can surf the web.

I am waiting for my Skylake Nuc to arrive so i will try the windows 8.1 install with my 8 license and see how that goes

I reinstalled Windows 7 and activated it. I am running the Windows 10 upgrade tool now. Maybe i was just being impatient so i will let it run for the day and check on it every so often.
I thought because it was taking a while i did something wrong but it just might be a long process.

With the latest Win 10 version (1511) you no longer need to do an upgrade. You can just clean install using your win 7 or 8 keys.

I was afraid it wouldn't work but it actually installed and is activated. Thanks I started the update process atabout 9:30am and stopped it around 2:15pm and did a clean install with my Windows 7 key over top my Windows 7 install.

Not sure why it worked. The 1511 update wasnt installed until now. Just hit the update and 1511 was one of the updates installed.
